Antique LIBBEY GLASS Crystal Wine Decanters Bottles Stoppers Port Sherry S/P Tag. Not to be confused with later high-production glassware by the same maker, today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful pair of truly antique Libbey glass crystal decanters of remarkable beauty and quality! Libbey hails originally from East Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the New England Glass Company which was founded in 1818. In 1888, Edward Drummond Libbey, son of the first corporate owner, William, moved the company to Toledo, Ohio. The Northwest Ohio area offered abundant natural gas resources and access to large deposits of high quality sand. Toledo also had a network of railroad and steamship lines, making it an ideal location for the company. In 1892, the name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company. The Libbey company is famous for its’ spun-glass cloth dresses which debuted in 1893 at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. This antique set of decanters is finely crafted and detailed. The decanters date to the early 1910s based on the Libbey mark on the bottom of each piece. Each decanter features a bold octagon-shape molded crystal body with coordinating crystal stoppers. The design, cut precision and crystal quality make the decanters refract light colorfully like a prism… The design of the decanters is streamlined and elegantly timeless. The decanters are adorned with silver-plated reticulated bordered coasters engraved with a fanciful monogram. Each decanter also includes an engraved English Birmingham 1854 sterling silver grape motif repousse tag for “Sherry” and “Port” wines. Decanters present beautifully and are in very good antique condition, with very minimal wear/scuffing, tarnish and patina commensurate with age. There are a few minute fleabite chips to edges in each decanter; one decanter has a small chip on stopper. All defects are very hard to find and do not detract from the beauty in any meaningful way. There is minor loss to silver-plating on coasters. Add elegance and style to any fine bar-ware accoutrement collection with this fabulous set from an iconic American company..
